L'ottava edizione del festival BEYOND MEDIA si svolgerà a Firenze dall'1 all'11 dicembre 2005, nelle prestigiose sedi dell'Ospedale degli Innocenti e della Stazione Leopolda.Ancora una volta il festival promuoverà il confronto tra il mondo della progettualità e il più ampio universo della comunicazione. Darà luogo a un programma di incontri, visioni, esposizioni e tenderà a raccogliere le più significative testimonianze del nostro tempo in una chiave di interesse per gli specialisti e per il grande pubblico.Saranno proposte le migliori opere video e multimediali, realizzate da architetti, studenti, professionisti della comunicazione, provenienti da oltre venti Paesi. Una ricca scena espositiva composta da 30 tra i più vivaci architetti attivi sulla scena internazionale (la mostra "THE STORYTELLERS"), da 20 scuole tra quelle che maggiormente si distinguono, nel mondo, per la ricerca che associa la progettazione ai media (la seconda edizione della mostra "SPOT ON SCHOOLS"). Un articolato calendario di incontri con i protagonisti della scena architettonica mondiale offrirà al pubblico un ampio sguardo sulle molteplici occasioni di confronto sul tema "SCRIPT". Workshop di scrittura progettuale ("GOOD TIMES", "CARTOLINE ANIMATE", "TRANSCRIPTS") accompagneranno la manifestazione inserendosi direttamente all'interno della trama prodotta dalle mostre, dal congresso, dagli eventi speciali proposti dal festival.

Sarà possibile seguire via Internet tutte le giornate del Simposio grazie al dispositivo [talksaver] basato sul software «E-pres», sviluppato da France Télécom R&D, grazie al quale la trascrizione degli interventi, effettuata contemporaneamente al loro svolgimento, potrà essere messa online in tempo reale in una pagina creata all’interno del sito web della Biennale, dando vita a un vero e proprio ipertesto.Il ricorso a [talksaver] rappresenta un’occasione per approfondire alcuni degli obiettivi della nuova edizione di Sensi Contemporanei, il progetto a favore delle regioni del Sud d’Italia promosso dal Dipartimento per le Politiche di Sviluppo e di Coesione del Ministero dell’Economia e delle Finanze, dalla DARC - Direzione generale per l’Architettura e l’Arte contemporanea del Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, e dalla Biennale di Venezia (d’intesa con le Regioni Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia e Sicilia).Il progetto di partnership operativa si realizzerà tra Sensi Contemporanei e cinque atenei, di cui tre nel Sud Italia (Università della Basilicata, Università della Calabria e Università di Palermo), uno a Parigi e uno a New York. Chi ha colto l'importanza di una rete alternativa e di spazi telematici indipendenti può ora prendere la palla al balzo e contribuire al futuro di un progetto italiano tanto in difficoltà quanto unico e insostituibile

Roma - L'indipendenza dai tradizionali meccanismi economici e di controllo, lo spazio fornito a gruppi e realtà di estrazione antagonista e alternativa, i servizi messi a disposizione di migliaia di persone per parlare liberamente di tutto quello che va dai diritti digitali alla net-art: c'è questo e molto di più nella lunga storia di Isole nella Rete, progetto che fornisce uno spessore diverso alla rete italiana e che ora è ad un punto di svolta.Per rendersene conto è sufficiente cliccare sulla home page di ECN.org dove si paventa un futuro doloroso, quello in cui i server e i servizi indipendenti fin qui offerti alla comunità online, italiana possano cessare di esistere."Il "bilancio" di Isole nella Rete - si legge - è prossimo allo zero e i segni vitali del server (il computer) su cui sono ospitati tutti i servizi, sono preoccupanti. I solerti macchinisti di Isole stanno mettendo in campo le loro energie migliori per evitare il coma del server. Ma serve il contributo e l'aiuto di tutti perché ecn non chiuda".Come recita un comunicato, sul piatto non c'è solo il bisogno di un obolo di una campagna di sottoscrizione (anche), ma di qualcosa di più, evidentemente la consapevolezza di cosa questi spazi aperti hanno significato in termini di crescita collettiva e di difesa delle libertà personali, quella di espressione prima tra tutte. Con battaglie, spesso raccontate anche da Punto Informatico, che si sono combattute dentro e fuori dalla rete.I promotori di Isole ne parlano come di un patrimonio collettivo, e ne hanno ben donde se si considera che si tratta, come sottolineano loro, di:"- Un progetto linkato da più di ventimila siti Web nel mondo che ospita liste di discussione con centinaia di iscritti su temi come i cyber-rights, i centri sociali e l'arte digitale nonché altri domini storici del domino italiano (hackmeeting, chainworkers, forteprenestino, ngvision, altravista, filiarmonici);- un portale di servizi che, pur accerchiato da magistratura e polizia, cerca ostinatamente di mantenere servizi quali l'anonymous remailer;- un portale scomodo con le sue sezioni dedicate all'orrore della repressione;- un portale che con la sua agenda registra il ritmo dell'autorganizzazione italiana, che con i suoi servizi contribuisce a tenere vivo il dibattito sui temi più cari al movimento e permette a moltissime realtà di avere un proprio spazio web e una casella di posta sicura senza dover rendere conto ai grandi controllori."Tutte le info per conoscere Isole e sostenere il progetto sono disponibili qui

This practical seminar offers beginners a step-by-step approach to creating a short electroacoustic piece.The creation is intended as a study piece, and only uses freeware described on the UNESCO Digi-Arts website.

The practical seminar is made up of seven successive sessions - theorical sessions

Session 3 Creating the “Prelude”
Session 4 Creating Part 1, “Resonances”
Session 5 Creating Part 2, “Proliferation”
Session 6 Creating the “Coda”
Session 7 Final mix

To make the project widely accessible, the equipment and software required are as simple as possible: We have used a basic, relatively old computer built around a Pentium III, 1 MHz processor, with Windows 98 and 128 MB of RAM. Whatever set-up you use, an external microphone is preferable if you wish to avoid bad sound quality and intrusive background noise.
An additional sound card is not essential. For this initial pedagogical exercise the one in the computer is sufficient, and will allow you to grasp the major notions of electroacoustic creation.
This creation only uses audio data. We have avoided MIDI data, and thus the material difficulties and costs of interfaces, pilots and keyboards.
The main objective is to obtain an understanding, through practice, of electroacoustic creation – of what it involves and its different stages. Once you have acquired a degree of autonomy, you can go on discovering for yourself the wealth of expression contained in the sound universe of computer music.

Throughout the practical seminar you will find many references to the freeware documentation and theoretical seminar available on the Digi-Arts site.

The One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival features documentaries that explore, question, and challenge the complexities of the times in which we live.
Through documentaries that unveil the realities behind the global media, One World operates as a forum for initiatives towards change. It is the festival's intent to reach audiences in such a way that a sense of urgency for change is awakened in each individual - and from this urgency, complacency deemed unacceptable.
One World is committed to bringing the works of filmmakers from across the world to places where their messages can be heard, absorbed, and acted upon.
The festival consists of an international competition of feature-length and short documentary films and videos, retrospectives and tributes, educational screenings for primary and secondary schools, workshops, debates, concerts and photo exhibitions.
Submission guidelines
One World is open to filmmakers from all over the world. In selecting films, organizers will concentrate equally on both artistic merit and human rights content. The festival accepts documentary films of all lengths and also short animated films (up to 30 min.).
Films and videos may be submitted for the international competition by filmmakers, producers, distributors or legal entities.
Only documentary films and video programs not entered in previous One World festivals and produced after January 2005 will be considered for the competition.
Participation in other festivals does not preclude participation in One World.
A signed and completed entry form must be sent to the festival office before November 1st, 2005, along with a VHS preview copy of the submission. It is also possible to submit the entry form online.
The selection committee will inform applicants of its decision no later than February 2006.
Entry form data from all submitted films are processed and presented on the One World database at: http://www.oneworld.cz/. Please fill in precise information in the entry form to avoid mistakes in the database and catalogue.
Preview videos (VHS) will be kept in the Festival archives.
Rules and regulations:
Presentation formats: 35mm, 16mm, Betacam PAL, DVcam, DVD.
One World is not able to screen Digi Beta or NTSC formats.
Applicants of selected documentaries are obliged to provide festival organizers with the following: a short synopsis of their film, complete commentary (dialogue list) in English, one still photo of the film director, at least one still photo in print quality (minimum 300 dpi) from the film and a poster of the film. The organizers would also appreciate any other promotional material applicants might have at their disposal. The festival covers the transport costs for selected films and videos (however, only for those transported by the official festival courier).
The organizer does not cover the transport costs of VHS tapes submitted for selection.
The organizers are liable for video cassettes and film prints from the day of their arrival in Prague to the day they are returned. In the event of damage, the Festival is responsible for reimbursing the value of the print / cassette.
During the Festival, all submitted films will be available for viewing on an optional basis at the festival video library.
Film prints and videos (Betacam cassettes) will be sent back two weeks after the end of the festival to the destination required by the producer / distributor.
Participants agree that if they once accept to be screened at the One World festival they will not withdraw their film from the program. Participants agree to give the Festival the copyrights for photos and excerpts (3 min. at most) of their film for release to the media and Internet (press and TV) for promotional purposes.
Participants agree that the festival organizer will translate their documentary into the Czech language and create a Czech subtitled version for festival purposes. Participants agree that the festival organizer may use the Czech subtitled version of their documentary for non-profit use (e.g. educational screenings at schools).
Completion and signature of the entry form indicates the applicant's consent to the festival rules and regulations.

Organized by an unincorporated non-profit group of artists, 7a*11d presents a series of performance art events and artist projects in a festival setting.
Our purpose is to offer a professional showcase for new and progressive performative works that fall outside the traditional boundaries of established genres of theatre, dance, music etc.
Artist organizers will select emerging and established artists of the highest quality from around the world. We will consider a wide range of work, and are committed to presenting the breadth and depth of performance art as a genre. We pay artist fees and endeavour to subsidize travel.
