Knit-working: Networking like never before

This is a unique and exciting event celebrating craft and the convivial aspect of knitting.
This collaborative project sees the highly successful fashion and lifestyle label Kokon To Zai (Marjan Pejoski) join forces with knit artist Shane Waltener for an evening of creative networking in its truest sense.
Through the shared experience of producing a knitted installation, participants will benefit from a truly unique opportunity to meet other creative professionals from divergent disciplines and interests. By the end of the evening, a massive knitted structure will cover the room from floor to ceiling, enveloping the guests in a web of wool - all of this accompanied by great live music.
• Kokon To Zai http://www.kokontozai.co.uk/ (and its couture label that goes under the name of Marjan Pejoski) has been a respected brand name in high end fashion for ten years, with boutiques in Paris and London and a huge following in Tokyo. Their reputation for unprecedented creativity has made them a favourite amongst rock stars. Bjork is a regular customer and memorably wore Marjan’s ‘swan dress’ to the 2001 Oscars ceremony. On the evening, Alex & Sol (hotboy dancing spot, Mother Bar/333, Ziegfred’s, George & Dragon) from the Kokon Team will be DJing.
• Shane Waltener http://www.shanewaltener.com/ is a contemporary artist who draws inspiration from craft practices, be it knitting, embroidery or sugarcraft. He has exhibited his work at prestigious venues internationally, including the Museum of Arts and Design (New York), CAB (Burgos, Spain), National Gallery (Prague) and the Victoria and Albert Museum (London).
The event is curated by founding member of The Club, Lida Hujic.

via WISE - women in science and engineering - Chicago
Knit Working is a term for a group of (usually) women who get together to knit, sew, crochet... you get the idea ... and talk about life, politics, etc. At the UIC WISE Knitworking lunches, we can discuss anything including classes. This is just one way for WISE students to come together informally and just hang out. it comes from combining knitting with networking. And networking is essential to a successful career!
