Dream & Trauma - Works from the Dakis Joannou Collection, Athens – a joint project with Kunsthalle Wien and MUMOK. The exhibition approaches the two phenomena that draw on the
unconscious, the dream as well as the psychic injury – the trauma, with over 40 contemporary artistic positions.
Dream and trauma are regarded as opposites that have a lot in common:
the psychoanalytical background, the phenomena of the unconscious and suppression and, not least, their power of transcendence. An aesthetics of the traumatic as found in the works of William Kentridge or Cindy Sherman visualises forms of pain, fear and injury, it shows wounds to the essence of being and existential wounding. It depicts inner states of feeling, altered, crazy and uncanny perceptions of reality (Robert Gober), fragmented bodies

(Paul McCarthy, Anna Gaskell) and remnant forms (Urs Fischer). It discovers an art that, in the works of Gregory Crewdson,

Tim Noble/Sue Webster, visualises the repressed and depraved and so uncovers pain-filled wishes, desires and dreams.

Dreams and trauma reveal their imaginary power in the tension between absence and presence; repression and a surfeit of emotion; abstraction (Olafur Eliasson, Christopher Wool) and visual overload (Aurel Schmidt, Ralf Ziervogel).
Dakis Joannou is regarded as one of the most important collectors of contemporary
art in the world. The Greek businessman founded the Deste Foundation in 1983 with its own exhibition space.
After the first presentation outside of Greece in the Palais de Tokyo (2005) in Paris, Dream & Trauma is the second largest thematic exhibition with works from his collection.

ABOUT THE PERFORMING ARTISTS:

- Tonic Train
Sarah Washington (UK) & Knut Aufermann (DE)

Antennen zwischen den abstrakten Welten des circuit bending und des feedbacks Tonic Train ist das Duo von Sarah Washington und Knut Aufermann, die seit sieben Jahren musikalisch zwischen den abstrakten Welten des circuit bending und des feedbacks pendeln. Angeregt durch ihre Arbeiten im Bereich des experimentellen Radios haben immer mehr mit Antennen bestückte Geräte Aufnahme in ihr live-Musik set-up gefunden.
Sarah Washington is an artist and organizer working with sound and radio.
Formerly a Director of the London Musicians' Collective, she helped set-up the radio station Resonance104.4 fm.
For performance she creates hand-made electronic instruments by circuit bending toys, and utilizes ultrasonic devices and radio technology. Sarah creates innovative radio works, writes articles on radio and sound art, and teaches workshops for cultural institutions across Europe. She helped instigate the international network of independent radio stations called Radia and has been on the road since 2005 with the traveling European radio and sound art project Mobile Radio.
Knut Aufermann hat Chemie, Tontechnik und Sonic Arts studiert und wurde stark durch seine Zeit als Manager der Londoner Kunstradiostation Resonance104.4fm geprägt. Nach zwei Jahren nomadischer Tätigkeit lebt er zur Zeit als freier Musiker und Radiokünstler in Köln.

Fünfzig im Raum gruppierte Radioapparate vervielfältigen die Stimmen zu fünf Chören auf fünf ukw-frequenzen verteilt sendet blablabor fünf stimmen an das radioorchester. fünfzig im raum gruppierte radioapparate vervielfältigen die stimmen zu fünf chören und mischen der musik ihre je charakteristischen rausch- und knistertöne bei. das stoisch vom bass vorgetragene wort 'airbag' färbt sich mit dem klang des 'hitachi transistor 6wh-638', dem 'm electronic ms 2400' und dem 'itt nokia rp 9151' und wälzt sich mit dem tosen der 47 weiteren radiogeräte durch den raum.

Die Radioperformance “Funkloch" ist experimentelle Musik die am Konzertort mit einem selbstgebautem Radiosender direkt übertragen wird. Diese Musik kann so nur mit einem eigens mitgebrachten Radioempfänger gehört werden.
Sein Set-up besteht aus: Spieldose, Rahmentrommel. Micromodular, Loop, Frequenzweiche und Minisub, 1 Tape mit Sätzen aus der Glückspost und anderem , sowie eine Mini-Radiostation (92MHz).
Sebastian Hofmann studierte Schlagzeug in Zürich, Karlsruhe und Berlin. Seit 4 Jahren spielt er Solokonzerte für Zeitgenössische Schlagzeugmusik. Er sendet und koordiniert beim Radio LoRa die Kunstsendung So21 und organisiert die Konzertreihe “So21 als Veranstaltung" in Zürich.

wireless urban community gardening

Der TSG ist eine Open Source Software Plattform um öffentliche "sound gardens" in Städten zu kultivieren. Der TSG bezieht sich auf die Kultur des "urban community gardening" und postuliert ein partizipatorisches Umfeld, in welchem neue räumliche Praktiken für soziale Interaktion im Rahmen technologisch mediierter Umgebungen exploriert und evaluiert werden können. Dabei spricht er auf den Einfluss von mobilen audio devices wie iPods an. Das Projekt untersucht die Abstufung von Privatsphäre und Öffentlichkeit innerhalb des heutigen öffentlichen Raums.
