After several years of cultural and artistic exchange between Germany, Israel and internationally, as curators and artists, many things have changed within the cultural and artistic fields in both places which have also effected the terms and frameworks for our involvements. What do these social, political and economical changes mean for us as artists, producers and curators? Where will our projects develop to? What are the questions and obstacles we are facing in our daily work and what do they mean in our long term commitments? We would like to openly discuss these questions above along with some of our artistic and curatorial activities of the past few years. Along, we will screen and play some excerpts of our works and projects.

About 'Ma Iti?'

Ma Iti (What is it with me?) is an ongoing experimental documentary presented as a 4 channel audio-visual installation that addresses questions of identity, home and the personal and political uncertainties that define some of the realities of life in Israel. The work is comprised of documentary footage, interviews.

About c.sides

The c.sides Festival for Independent Electronic Music and New Media Arts is a three day independent and non-commercial international festival for artists, producers and musicians working in mediums of electronic and digital art and who are interested in creating a platform for exchange, networking and discussion concerning issues of art, social, political and cultural concern. The festival is a convergence between a media arts festival and a conference including various performing stages, exhibitions, workshops and theoretical discussions and panels. About 100 international and local artists have participated in the festival as well as in a introductory program for participants that addresses the social, political and cultural situation in Jerusalem, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories as well as additional burning international issues and c.sides developed out of a continuous exchange that took place between independent musicians, artists, activists and organizations for human rights and social change in the years 2003-2005 and came to fruition in 2005 with the first c.sides festival in Jerusalem. Come revel in a media celebration as we strip reality of its skin, turn it inside out, and reveal what aesthetics may emerge.

Sonic Acts XII

Sonic Acts XII will be held in Amsterdam from 21 - 24 February 2008.

The twelfth edition of the festival will be devoted to The Cinematic Experience and includes an international conference, a wide range of concerts and performances, a diverse programme of films and an exhibition.

The programme will focus on the rich history of the cinematic experience; from magic lanterns, colour organs and zoetropes to experience machines and immersive environments. Sonic Acts will also look into the future. Will cinema distance itself from the narrative in the near future? What is the future for celluloid? And what role will sensory deprivation play in future cinema?

With The Cinematic Experience, Sonic Acts will focus on the physical audiovisual experience associated with the cinematic experience. The festival will not focus on the medium as a means of telling us something using a narrative or a representation of reality. Instead, it will investigate the medium as a means to make us aware of our sensory system, and on how we use it to synthesize audiovisual stimuli into a comprehensive interpretation of our environment.

HUB2

BOSTON, MA – Hub2 (www.hub2.org), a project involving the City of Boston, the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA), Emerson College, and the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School, will showcase virtual models created by Boston residents to improve the city’s public spaces and present Mayor Menino’s office with the keys to the virtual city.

The event will take place on Thursday, December 13 at 12:30 P.M. in the Charles Beard Room at 80 Boylston St., Emerson College.

In September 2007, Hub2 began hosting workshops at Emerson to foster civic engagement using the virtual world, Second Life.
For three months students and residents have been creating three-dimensional immersive models of sites in the Greater Boston Area. Their work will be used by the City of Boston to assist in future development plans for the city. A total of six projects will be on display ranging from designs of Government Center to the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston. The Mayor’s Chief of Staff, Judith Kurland; the Chief Information Officer, Bill Oats; and BRA officials will also be in attendance.

Hub2 was founded in 2007 by Emerson College professor, Eric Gordon, Berkman Center Fellow, Gene Koo, and Special Assistant to Boston Mayor Menino, Nigel Jacob. The organization enlists Boston residents to articulate visions of public spaces using virtual three- dimensional worlds. With partnerships and support from members of Emerson College, Harvard University, the City of Boston and the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA), Hub2 began its work in September 2007. The project aims to help Boston residents take ownership of their public space and facilitate civic engagement with their community.

Hub2 strives for a Boston where all residents take control and ownership of their neighborhoods, enlisting digital environments and networks to strengthen real-world spaces and relationships.

Construction and Deconstruction of the 43rd President
by Bethany Fancher

Construction and Deconstruction of the 43rd President, 2006SD VideoFancher questions her place and responsibility in relationship to America through her performance-based video installation, Construction and Deconstruction of the 43rd President.

Her examination tool is Wonder Bread - the prototypical American industrially produced food product, as a symbolic gesture of her disgust at how we are marketed information devoid of any real substance.Bethany Fancher currently lives and works in Queens, New York. Connection to the animal world combined with alienation from humankind in general with all its oppression, repression, and depression runs thematically through her work in video, performance, sculpture, photography, and painting.

She attended the I-Park residency in East Haddam, Connecticut in 2001, the Jentel residency in Banner, Wyoming in 2004, the McColl Center for Visual Arts residency in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2005 and exhibits her work nationally and internationally.
