"Neutre intense est un cycle de trois expositions - Mitim, ( ) et It's Gonna Rain - présentées au centre d’art Mira Phalaina/Maison populaire à Montreuil (France) de janvier à décembre 2008. Les trois expositions entendent explorer la possibilité d’un paradoxe : l’intensité du neutre.
Cette hypothèse réfère à une notion que Roland Barthes a développée au fil d’une série de séminaires, intitulée Le Neutre et présentée au Collège de France en 1978. Aux connotations “de grisaille, de ‘neutralité’, d’indifférence” que nous prêtons habituellement au neutre, Barthes oppose l’idée que celui-ci peut référer à “des états intenses, forts, inouïs.”
Transposée dans le champ des arts visuels, la problématique que développe Barthes peut nous aider à mettre en lumière une ambivalence présente dans la pratique de nombreux artistes entre, d’une part, une réduction formelle ou discursive et, d’autre part, l’intensité, la complexité, la richesse de sens que cette apparente réduction implique."

Der Stuttgarter Filmwinter greift Entwicklungen und Impulse in der internationalen jungen Filmemacher- und Künstlerszene auf und bietet diesen eine erste öffentliche Plattform. Erstmalig ist der Media-Space eine eigenständige Sektion im Rahmen des Filmwinters.

The Whole World is a list of lists: a programme of artists’ film and video and an interactive online exhibition.
Both a formal device and a political strategy, film and video that deploys a list as part of its structure often does so with political intent: to subvert hierarchies, to undermine rationalism or to reveal contradiction. In contemporary culture the pop chart’s Top 10 has been replaced by an ever-expanding craze for “Top 100s” of everything from Hollywood genres to celebrity gaffes. The Whole World attempts to wrestle back the initiative..."
