Recognized internationally as a unique forum that encourages new insights and collaborations, Subtle Technologies challenges its participants to contemplate how art and science act upon one another and reshape perspectives.
Throughout four days of presentations, we cover a wide variety of subjects. It is the unexpected threads that are woven between the various presentations that make the Festival a unique experience.
The 11th Subtle Technologies Festival investigates light as our theme. Studied as long as recorded history, light continues to inspire and mystify us. Either visible or invisible, a particle or a wave, as nourishment, heat, and energy, molecules to complex organisms respond to and are affected by light. The speed of light defines our physics. It has held great spiritual significance for many cultures."

Oberhausen expanded its market in 2006 by adding a series of Screenings where selected international distributors of experimental and artistic short films were given the opportunity to present their current line-ups.

"Freewaves' HollyWould... festival will take place in October 2008, in the perceived world capital of media. We are looking for interesting works that represent an alternative to mainstream media or directly relate to 'Hollywood.'
Millions travel annually to fabled Hollywood Boulevard between Vine and Highland, the site of the festival. Instead of a street filled with glamorous boutiques and celebrities, tourists find a gritty neighborhood in transition populated by entertainment seekers, the homeless, runaways, media industry workers, art lovers, and ethnically diverse residents. Notions of Hollywood as Xanadu, perpetuated by our media culture, don't match reality.
Media art works include experimental videos and films (narrative, documentary, art, animation, etc.), cell phone videos, DVDs, websites, simple installations, wifi events and silent video billboards. Works from the festival will also appear on television and video-streamed on the Internet. Competitive selection process will be conducted online by a group of international and local curators with a range of specialties and backgrounds."

- The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) is going to participate in the 53rd Venice Biennale (Visual Arts) from June to November 2009 in Italy, showcasing the works of Hong Kong visual artists in the international arts arena.
The ADC has been presenting the works of Hong Kong visual artists in the name of "Hong Kong, China" at the Venice Biennale since 2001. Through participating in this renowned arts biennale, it is aimed to develop creativity and international perspective among local artists, and to create a favourable environment for the long-term development of visual arts in Hong Kong. The total number of visitors of the past four exhibitions is over 100,000.
Interested parties, including artists/ independent curators/ arts organisations, are now cordially invited to submit proposals for exhibition and curation of the Hong Kong Pavilion in the 53rd Venice Biennale.
