SoundNetwork
At Futuresonic 2008 in Manchester, 1-4 May, SoundNetwork will be creating a brand new kind of social space close to the centre of the festival where artists and visitors alike can meet, relax and experience sonic art. Our cafe will be an exhibition and an exhibit. Where ever you sit to drink your coffee, eat your cake, and talk there will be access to audio work (by means of headphone outlets inserted into the furniture) or a local network that allows you to experience and interact with sonic art work on your own laptop. In addition there will be live performances at our Binary Jam event showcasing some of the best emerging talent in live sound art and experimental music.
SoundNetwork are inviting submissions of stereo (and mono) audio work to be shown as part of The Comfort of Strangers headphone exhibition.
With respect to the theme of the festival, The Social, we are only seeking work created by collectives, groups, ensembles or any other kinds of collaborations from anywhere around the world. We especially welcome submissions from registered members of the network and would encourage you to register with us on our website. Work made by individuals will not be accepted for this exhibition.
You can download an application form at: soundnetwork.omweb.org and find out more about how to send us your work.

Meredith Dittmar / Betsy Walton
"Meredith Dittmar/Betsy Walton
FEB23-MAR22 2008
Meredith Dittmar is an artist living and playing in Portland OR. Born near Boston Mass, she grew up in a world of pet pigs, horses, hay-forts and spy games. Follow this with an education in computer science, a career in interactive design, a compulsive need to create, and a drive to Seek and you get the major elements of her person and work.
Betsy Walton grew up in Kansas, studied printmaking in Wisconsin at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and now lives in lovely Portland, Oregon. When she is not making a picture or daydreaming about knitting a combination unitard/hammock with socks and a hood, she might be found looking for a snack or wandering the aisles of her local library."

SWOON
"Drown Your Boats"
a solo exhibition by SWOON
February 16th - April 19th
New Image Art is pleased to announce the first Los Angeles solo exhibition by SWOON, "Drown Your Boats."
Partially inspired by Angela Carter's "Burning Your Boats," this show, and much of SWOON's work is not only a momentary glimpse in contemporary life; her work speaks of tales, legends, and variations on mythic themes, sparked by great vitality, inventiveness, and a deeply macabre imagination.
Having recently participated in an armada of sorts SWOON along with other fellow Pittsburgh "boat punks" constructed their own flotilla and sailed down the Hudson and Mississippi Rivers. For this new exhibition SWOON will be executing a canoe as her central installation piece that will later become part of a Deitch Projects show this Fall.
