„Some Times“ präsentiert in einer präzisen Auswahl Foto- und Videoarbeiten der beiden nordamerikanischer Künstler, die sich seit Anbeginn ihres Schaffens mit Licht und Bewegung, mit dem Sichtbarmachen von Zeit, in ihrem Fließen und gleichsam ihrem Einfrieren, auseinandergesetzt haben.
Während der 20 Jahre jüngere Bill Viola mit seinen technisch aufwändigen, teilweise aufwühlenden Video-Installationen international Furore gemacht hat, ist es um die heute in Berlin lebende Nan Hoover, trotz zahlreicher Ausstellungen in internationalen Galerien und Museen, eher ruhig geblieben – eine Differenz, die durchaus auch das Vorgehen der beiden Künstlerpersönlichkeiten charakterisiert.
Wenn Bill Viola Kunstschaffende maßgeblich durch seine spektakulären Szenerien beeinflusst hat, so ist die Arbeit von Nan Hoover bei jungen Künstlern vor allem auch durch ihren Unterricht an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf nachhaltig geworden, wo sie als Professorin die Nachfolge von Nam June Paik angetreten hatte. Auch an der Internationalen Sommerakademie in Salzburg hat sie die neu eingerichtete Klasse für Medienkunst geleitet."

Erwin Redl: MATRIX II is the premiere showing of the artist’s theatrical scale light-emitting diode (or LED) artwork since it was acquired by MCASD in 2007. This room-size work offers viewers a space that seems to recede in all directions, as if the walls were mirrored. Floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall, the room is filled with grids of phosphor green LEDs, creating an immersive web of light.
MATRIX II was acquired by MCASD with funds from the International Collectors and the Annenberg Foundation. The exhibition is sponsored by MCASD's International Collectors."

SOUNDWAVES: THE ART OF SAMPLING
Sound has played a significant role in the development of modern and contemporary art, from the visual references of Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian in the early 20th-century to the aural experimentations of Nam June Paik and John Cage in the 1960s.
Soundwaves: The Art of Sampling looks at a specifically late 20th-century manifestation of the conjunction of art and sound, and features artists in MCASD’s collection, such as Tim Bavington, Celeste Boursier-Mougenot, Sean Duffy, Julio Cesar Morales, Dario Robleto, and Steve Roden, who appropriate the musical process of sampling in their work, either through the incorporation of found sound or through visual and material references.

" David Choe, brave, bold and vulgar US artist has teamed up with the Lazarides Galleries in both London and Newcastle to show a series of powerful new works called ‘Murderous Heart’.
Choe’s ascent has been as rapid and diverse as his output, and his award-winning work can be found pretty much everywhere, from comics to magazines, trainers to films, toys to t-shirts. For his first solo show in the UK, Choe has created works that have become paintings through the art of wanting to kill. Large and small, powerful and cheeky, these canvases are made with typical Choe-style panache using water colours, acrylics, spraypaint, ink pen, pencils and oils. Beautiful girls with manga lips and jutting breasts wrestle for space against violent, guerrilla machine-men wielding street weapons. Yet out of the chaos comes a thoughtful kaleidoscope of colour and clever technique, creating a body of work that is like Choe himself – challenging, and playful."
