poëziezomer 2008

Poëziezomer 2008
30 juni-7 september

Wystan Hugh Auden, Wislava Szymborska, Gerrit Kouwenaar, Stefan Hertmans, Erwin Mortier, Leonard Nolens, Luuk Gruwez, Ruth Lasters, Rutger Kopland, Gerrit Komrij…

De Italiaanse curator Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, geassisteerd door Daniela Zangrando en Lieven Declerck, selecteert o.a. beeldend werk van Mario Airò, Jonathan Horowitz, Panamarenko, Alberto Garutti, Lucy and Jorge Orta, Douglas Gordon, Philippe Parreno, Anne Wenzel, Jeremy Deller, Jiang Zhi, Thomas Lerooy, Koen Vanmechelen, Gery De Smet

Tris Vonna-Michell

The Baloise Art Prize honours two young artists every year (from the group known as "emerging artists“). The prize of CHF 25,000 for each winner is presented at the "Art Statements" sector of the international Art Basel fair by a jury of renowned experts.

In addition, the Baloise acquires a group of works by the award winners and donates these works to two important museums in Europe, the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig in Vienna and the Hamburger Kunsthalle.

In his performances Tris Vonna-Michell unites fact and fiction. The events and stories rattled off at breakneck speed in his monologues are complemented by documents, music and literature. Finding Chopin (2008) traces the odyssey of trying to track down the legendary artist Henri Chopin in Paris in 2005.

Vonna-Michell reconstructs his quest and the unanticipated hindrances encountered along the way, such as the theft of his entire archive. In his performances the artist integrates his visitors by giving them the opportunity to determine the time and manner of his presentation.

Box sized Die featuring (Darkmoon), 2007/2008

Art Unlimited - Art Basel

Box sized Die featuring Darkmoon is a live performance of a Death Metal band with a sculpture.

In this work Onofre takes the form of one of Toni Smith's most fundamental structures, his six-foot metal cube from 1962 titled: Die.

By placing the four-part, Swiss Death Metal band playing inside a sound-proof reproduction of Smith's modular cell, Onofre/the work provides a unique sensorial experience to the viewer. Unable to calculate the exact duration of each performance, which is determined by how long the band members withstand being trapped with a limited air supply, 'Box sized Die featuring Darkmoon, with the muffled sound that comes from its interior, raises the hidden, the unheimlich resonances of Smith'siconical minimalist cube. As such, Onofre animates an apparently inanimate, hard-edged object, making the sculpture a palpable experience - one of entrapment and death, claustrophobia and asphyxiation.

Wordle - Beautiful Word Clouds

Wordle - Beautiful Word Clouds:

"Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends."

Scott Snibbe

"Visitors to the museum are invited to interact with the falling girl as well. A camera captures the silhouettes of viewers and inserts them into the narrative in real time. As visitors appear in the windows and become part of the story, they are invited to reflect on their own everyday interactions, including those that appear episodic or transient but that may provide solace to a passing stranger.

Snibbe collaborated on Falling Girl with choreographer and director Annie Loui, who cast and directed the dance and movement performances."
