The Guild Art Gallery is pleased to present the first solo of Lokesh Khodke at The Guild previewing on 10th January.
Lokesh Khodke was born in 1979 and received B.F.A (2002) M. F.A (2004) in painting from M. S.U. Baroda with gold medal. Khodke is a recipient of Nasreen Mohammedi Scholarship, Gold medal of excellence in Visual Arts and Junior Research Fellowship, UGC - years 2005 and has shown in selected group shows - 'Interlude: Venice/Kassel' at Jehangir Nicholson Gallery, Mumbai presented by The Guild; 'Are We Like This Only' at Vadehra Art Gallery New Delhi; 'Beyond Credos' curated by Shivaji K. Panikkar at Birla Art Academy, Kolkata; 'New Voices' The Guild Art USA Inc, New York.
Khodke is an exceptionally talented and thinking artist and is also an aspiring poet and writer. The artist lives and works in Baroda.

Visitors find their experience of space further challenged in the remainder of Subversive Spaces. The exhibition examines the legacy of the surrealist project in two distinct areas. The first ‘Psychic Interiors’, uses themes of psychic disturbance – anxiety and hysteria – to explore the constraining spaces of the home. ‘Wandering the City’ follows the Surrealists’ preoccupation with walking around the streets as a means to discover hidden social spaces as well as unconscious fears and desires.

Pour poser la première pierre sur le champ d'investigation choisi pour 2009 « Le couple d'artistes s'expose... ! », la galerie ESCA reçoit à PPCM Maurin et La Spesa, assez symptomatiques dans le genre couples en art qui questionnent toujours un peu.
En effet, quelle est cette curiosité qui nous pousse si souvent à vouloir connaître la recette d'un travail artistique commun, travail si longtemps présenté comme impossible : la création devant être l'oeuvre d'un seul, solitaire et maudit, on nous l'a assez répété !

Il 29 gennaio verrà inaugurata alla galleria Giò Marconi la prima personale di Wade Guyton in Italia, allestita al piano terra della galleria.
Wade Guyton presenta una nuova serie di lavori che l'artista casualmente descrive come 'righe'.
I lavori sono riprodotti stampando lo stesso file digitale almeno due volte sulla medesima tela di lino piegata. Le strisce nere sono disegnate con Photoshop.
Sembrano essere un dettaglio ingrandito di uno dei suoi monocromi neri in cui metà delle testine sono ostruite in modo da produrre delle righe larghe nere e bianche che somigliano ad un costume da bagno indossato da una modella nel suo poster Portikus, un'immagine trovata.
Il processo è simile a quello dei precedenti lavori. La stampante Epson 9600 Ultrachrome che egli utilizza ha una capacità media di 44 pollici.
L'artista piega il lino pre-caricato e alterna la stampa su fronte/retro e destra/sinistra. Ogni pezzo trascrive una documentazione visuale dell'operato della stampante: la traccia del movimento delle testine di stampa, gli stati variabili dell'otturazione delle stesse, le tracce delle ruote del rullo sull'inchiostro bagnato insieme alle stropicciature che l'opera subisce dopo essere stata trascinata sul pavimento per essere riposizionata nella stampante.

The exhibition starts from a cultural condition which many people across the globe are currently living through. It is a situation in which fear is being triggered, confinement taken as a given, surveillance considered as normal and conscious disinformation omnipresent, the whole under the cover of guaranteeing security, freedom of consumption and public policy transparency. More than anything, soft manipulation is the method of the day.

Seasonal Unrest (Un conflitto che ritorna)
La videoinstallazione a due canali, prodotta per l'occasione con il sostegno del Centro per l'arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, sarà presentata nella Project Room del museo dal 31 gennaio al 1 marzo 2009.
La nuova opera di Dani Gal è incentrata sulla figura professionale del rumorista, colui che produce suoni per film usando il proprio corpo e oggetti vari. Il rumorista, guardando il film e immaginando i suoni di una data scena, imita i suoni reali (per esempio i passi di un personaggio) e dà ai film effetti sonori compiuti e credibili.
Nel suo progetto Dani Gal riprende un rumorista nello studio di registrazione, durante il processo di creazione di nuovi effetti sonori per un documentario storico intitolato Grenade in Gaza (Una granata a Gaza).
Si tratta di una produzione televisiva israeliana del 1970 in cui una troupe televisiva entra per la prima volta nella Striscia di Gaza, gira un documentario e cerca di creare un'immagine di Gaza tre anni dopo la sua occupazione da parte di Israele.
Uno degli aspetti di cui si occupa il documentario è il modo in cui gli egiziani hanno usato i film per creare propaganda anti-israeliana. Il regista spiega come si possono usare immagini e film a scopo di propaganda, assumendo egli stesso una posizione obiettiva che possiamo considerare altrettanto propagandistica.
Artista nato nel 1977 a Gerusalemme e residente a Berlino, è stato uno dei quattro vincitori del Premio Villa Romana 2008. Usa attrezzature audio e video per attualizzare documenti e fatti storici e mettere a nudo le esigenze di produzione, i suoi aspetti tecnici, la sua ideologia, creando un contrasto con la storia ancora non scritta del nostro presente.

"The most intriguing artistic movements do not arise exclusively in world capitals like Paris, London or New York. The second half of the 20th century was a particularly fertile period in the provinces, with crucial ideas emanating from such peripheral places as Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, Milan and Turin. The exhibition demonstrates the way these cities developed, between the mid-1950s and the late 1960s, into centres of experimentation and breeding grounds for artistic trends with international scope."
The exhibition brings together works by some 40 artists, including Lygia Clark, Hélio Oiticica, Ivan Serpa, Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giulio Paolini, John Baldessari, David Hockney, Dennis Hopper, Edward Kienholz, and many others.
