Kaspar Müller

“Bias”, the title of Müller’s first institutional solo exhibition, is a concept that lends itself to quite a variety of interpretations, ranging from “predilection” or “inclination” to mathematical “distortion” or “deviation”. Kaspar Müller has thus chosen a title for his exhibition that challenges visitors to constantly examine and re-examine what they see and experience.

Especially for his exhibition at Kunsthaus Baselland, the artist created three straw figures, an ink drawing, photo collages and sculptural elements, such as several conical objects made of fabric, and a glass table with various objects. All objects in the exhibition have been specifically designed and brought together for this show.

Biennale Cuvée

Under the title "Biennale Cuvée" the OK presents a selection of artistic projects from the most important international biennials now for the third time. The exhibition offers visitors an insight into the international art world and an opportunity for a condensed experience of contemporary art.

Next to art fairs, today "biennials" are the most important international format for art exhibitions. Especially for cities like Taipei, Singapore, Yokohama or Gwangju, they also provide an opportunity to present themselves to a "western" international audience and to strengthen ties to the geographically remote European art scene. The OK "Biennale Cuvée" presents a selection from the most interesting biennials of 2008 with an emphasis on the Asian biennials in the selection. In addition to an exhibition in the OK itself, various locations and sites in the city of Linz will also be opened to present the most interesting projects.

Both public and private institutions operate as partners here, making their facilities available and taking part in developing the contents of the project. Specifically, these are the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor, the Knowledge Tower, the Energie AG Upper Austria, which welcome artists from all over the world together with the OK. The public areas essentially marking the new train station quarter become locations of art.

About 40 selected artists from over 25 countries are guests in Linz with their projects.

New Media Caucus Panel: "Video Games as medium, future paradigms and practices"

Eddo Stern: Independent Artist and Game Designer
Ben Chang: School of the Art Institute of Chicago
Jon Cates: School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Often when a new technology provides a fresh medium to the world of art it is met with indifference, indignation, or a lack of respect. It must then go through a long, often arduous acceptance process within the art world. New mediums are not easily accepted as art, especially those involving technology and those whose creative output at the start is primarily focused in the commercial sector. Videogames, much like their predecessors; photography, video art and cinema, are beginning their struggle with the process of acceptance. Already entrenched in many areas of popular and "low" culture the medium is making its way towards the echelons of "high culture". Moreover, the use of videogames as a platform within art (rather than just a subject) is gaining greater interest. This panel will bring together artists, practitioners, theorists and critics to discuss the potential futures of videogames as a medium within the world of art.

Andres Lutz & Anders Guggisberg

Andres Lutz & Anders Guggisberg
