The RSA Arts and Ecology Centre is an organisation whose role is to catalyse, publicise, challenge and support artists who are responding to the unprecedented environmental challenges of our era. Using their inspirations, RSA Arts and Ecology aims to create a positive discussion about the causes and the human impact of climate change through commissioning, debate, interdisciplinary discourse and a high-profile website.

the seventh annual live art platform event organised by platform north east to encourage the making, presentation and exchange of innovative live art and interdisciplinary practice within the north east region of England. The event aims to support emerging live art practice as well as to provide an opportunity for work that challenges contemporary categories of art and we are seeking to select 10–12 proposals that best represent these aims. Selected artists will receive support to develop and make their work and a small fee.

The international exhibition of contemporary arts “UKRAINIAN ART WEEK” is organized NextArt Foundation with support of National Artist Union of Ukraine at Central House of Artists (Kiev, November 16-23, 2009). Ukrainian Art week is a part of International Association of Art Weeks, consisting of Russian Art Week (Moscow, St.-Petersburg), Belarus Art Week (Minsk), Asian Art Week (Guangzhou).

No work is heredity-free, even if each invents its own history of art; but its decision is that of whom to follow, not of who will follow it. LA SUITE, by contrast, decides on which works follow; but it writes its own history – and, indirectly, that of the works it embraces.

Words in the Auditorium, ovvero una serie di conferenze che analizzano in modo piacevole e suggestivo i temi in gioco, dalla civiltà dell’immagine, alla fotografia come strumento di indagine, denuncia o mistificazione, all’animazione al servizio di tematiche politiche e sociali di scottante attualità, sino al metacinema, quando frammenti di film, incorporati nei video contemporanei, diventano tracce di memoria che si levano contro un tempo effimero e labile.

Contemporary Chinese art has lately become a topic of in-depth academic research. The conference Negotiating Difference examines contemporary Chinese art in a global context and focuses on questions of methodology. Whether considered from a discursive, institutional or object-centered perspective, contemporary Chinese art always involves aspects of a globally informed locality and a locally affected globality. To account for the complexity of this phenomenon, the conference proposes to analyse contemporary Chinese art in a transcultural perspective that questions prevailing research approaches critically and attempts to provide new answers. This perspective is an alternative to single-sided positions that either stress the construction of a ‘Chinese identity’ in essentialist terms or still consider Chinese art only based on a ‘Western’ notion of art. In contrast, Negotiating Difference proposes conceiving contemporary Chinese art as evolving out of processes of negotiated difference.
New visual axes were exposed to the current exhibitions by Qiu Zhijie (Beijing) and Tadashi Kawamata (Paris).
The role of historical memory and of cultural remembrance in societies dealing with dramatic transformations and, at times, traumatic pasts are numerous. In this conference, we will look at post-apartheid South Africa and reunified German society, how each country views itself, as well as the differences and similarities in their approach to interrogating and confronting the past.
