Modelled after the city of Marseille, the Mediterranean metropolis, the harbour, the hustling and bustling mosaic of peoples and cultures, the Festival was built with a multidisciplinary identity longing for travel, multiplicity and sharing. A reflection as much as a vehicle of contemporary creation, the project initiated by Apolline Quintrand has quickly become a cultural destination with a strong identity in a city nestled in the rich cultural landscape of the South of France.

Nurturing its differences, facing the challenges of discoveries and claiming its freedom of spirit, the Festival de Marseille multiplied its collaborations with prestigious contemporary artists and venues, while remaining accessible to a wide range of audiences by enforcing a low ticket-price policy.
